Energy source – maca powder
I impatiently waited the moment I could start writing this article for two reasons. First, maca powder is one of my favorites because of its properties and its mild, honey-like taste. Secondly, this is still a discovery for me as well, so I wanted to take a closer look and share this information with you.
Maca powder is made from the root of the Peruvian pepper, which originates in Peru and Bolivia. Although this vegetable has earned a reputation for being able to increase libido or even fertility, with its growing popularity, its use has also been found to have energy and mood stimulating properties. Looking at the nutritional value of maca powder, they are high in vitamin C and copper.
Provides with energy
It is often talked about the effects of maca on our energy and stamina. Studies have found that maca powder can give us energy, and one study noticed that using maca extract for a couple of weeks, male athletes performed better than before.
Improves mood
Another known property of Maca powder is that it can improve our mood. One of the reasons is flavonoids. This has also been observed in several studies in which postmenopausal women experiencing stress or depression were tested. Another study has found that maca powder can help reduce menopausal symptoms.
Can improve memory and brain function
I have found some interesting studies which show that maca powder can improve our brain function and develop memory, although so far these studies have only been done in animals. However, in Peru, Maca has been used regularly to improve children’s performance in school.
Maca can increase libido
Well, the most frequently mentioned benefit of this superfood is that it can increase libido. Several studies have already found that regular consumption of Maca powder can increase sexual desire. More of the studies, I have found, focused on male libido, but one study with postmenopausal women also noted changes in this area.
How to use this powder?
The recommended daily dose is 1-2 teaspoons. Because maca powder has a delicious, honey-dust-like flavor, it’s easy to incorporate anywhere. I usually use them in smoothies as an additional sweetener, but it also flavors porridge or yogurt.
